Babylon Restaurant
Leyla Al-Zubaydi and her family opened Babylon Restaurant in early June 2011, serving delicious Middle Eastern food in downtown Lowell. The Center worked closely with Leyla and her family, providing counseling and technical assistance as they went through the process of opening. The Al-Zubaydi family are recent arrivals from Uzbekistan, after leaving Iraq as refugees. With them they bring the traditional tastes of their native land. The restaurant is located at 25 Merrimack Street in Downtown Lowell (978-710-4278). When you first walk in, one immediately gets the sense of being in a unique atmosphere. The walls are painted red and green, like the Iraqi flag and appeasing Middle Eastern music flows throughout as the smell of fresh food wafts past your nose. Be sure to stop by for lunch or dinner and mention that you read about their restaurant on our website!
